Note: I’m just sharing those things to help anyone who is (or wanna be) on a leadership role in tech industry. All things mentioned below helped me in some way, and obviously, wont be applicable to every context. If you want to understand or discuss more about I've wrote here, feel free to send me a DM on Twitter.

“It’s not a promotion, it’s a new carrear”

The classic one. In a quick look, some people wouldn't agree with this one and it is completely understandable, considering that few years ago move to management was the easier (or even the only in specific cases - small companies for example) way to increase your gains (salary, bonus) after reach a senior level as a individual contributor. Also, move to management career makes you have (probably) a salary raise, new responsibilities and attributions, sounds like a promotion.

In my case, I was a software engineer with some years of experience and before choose try the management career, my idea of promotion was becoming staff software engineer, in my point of view, that one would be a promotion, since I would change the "size" of my responsibilities and attributions (more complex projects in few words) instead of get new ones (like happens with a engineering manager).

“Priorities? The team, members of the team, than, you”

“Don’t think about the future that will come, think about the future that you will create”

My favorite one, I was discussing with my manager about team structure and next steps when I said something like "I don't now what will came" (talking about company level projects) and I heard: "Don't think about what will came, spend your energy on what you will create".

“Are you giving what you are asking?”

Pretty simple, I was talking with a mentor about transparency (feedbacks, safe space, etc) and why I prefer this style of management and heard that one when I asked about "how to get more feedbacks of my team". The point is straight, do you like and want receive feedbacks? Give it. Transparency? Give it.

The idea here is not be a manipulative person who give something thinking in what will get back, but someone who open the channel doing the first step and showing that you are willing to it.
